Ah! Now this is more like it! The arena was rocking tonight, and it finally felt like a real convention. Fast forward to the end, they loved Sarah Palin — and it's crystal clear the Republicans are fired up! It was a packed line up and here are the highlights: GOPAC Chairman Michael Steele was the first speaker to rouse the full arena saying, "So, do you want to put your country first? Then let's reduce our dependency on foreign sources of oil and promote oil and gas production at home. In other words, drill baby drill! And drill now!" The crowd erupted in a chorus of "Drill baby, drill!"

Mitt Romney (whose hair is just as flawless in person) sounded very Reagan-esque, saying, "Our economy is under attack. China is acting like Adam Smith on steroids, buying oil from the world's worst, and selling nuclear technology. Russia and the oil states are siphoning more than 500 billion dollars a year from us in what could become the greatest transfer of economic wealth in history. This is no time for timid, liberal empty gestures."

According to the AP: "Former Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee put the squeeze on a politician at the North Carolina Republican Party convention. The former Arkansas governor performed the Heimlich maneuver on Robert Pittenger, Republican candidate for lieutenant governor, at a lunch Saturday. Pittenger said he was laughing when he choked on some food." Saving lives is, apparently, all in a day's work.

In mid-November, two weeks after the next president is declared the winner, Mike Huckabee's new book hits shelves. In it, he'll tell the tale of his failed bid for the White House and offer his vision for remodeling the conservative movement. According to the publisher, "There's going to be a lot of untold stories and untold anecdotes. But the other part is the governor's vision for the future of American politics and society and what should we be working towards? How does the (Republican) party become more unified?"Given the fact that some high-profile Republicans were anti-Huck, and conservatives like Ann Coulter have said they'd rather vote for Hillary than McCain, do you think there's a schism in the Republican party? Aw, this retrospective from the Young Turks almost made me a little nostalgic with their parting tribute to the fallen GOP candidates. Some highlights — Rudy Giuliani answering his wife's phone call during a speech, and Mike Huckabee answering God's phone call during a speech (no joke). There's no voicemail in heaven.

John McCain can now focus on the Democrats, but we will all be deprived some classic entertainment. I mean, One Moment in Time! The Democrats are much less amusing.

Though he maintained all day that he was going to stay in the race, after losing Texas to John McCain, Mike Huckabee has dropped out of the presidential race. Huckabee said, "I'd rather lose an election, than lose the principles that got me into politics to begin with."

John McCain swept all four primaries today, securing the delegates he needs to become the Republican nominee.

A: An extreme distaste for the IRS and Paris Hilton's number on speed dial.

Okay, maybe not that last one, but the suspected tax-evading bouncers at the Vegas nightclub Pure might be in favor of ol' Mike Huckabee after the IRS raided the club this week, confiscating computers. The cash-based industry attracts the attention of the very department Huckabee wants to abolish. It's rumored that good bouncers are clearing half a million dollars a year.

Not a bad paycheck considering our Commander in Chief only makes $400,000. Maybe we'll see Bush checking IDs at a door sometime soon . . .

Based on his almost impossible chances of winning the nomination, it seems like Mike Huckabee is running for something other than president. Maybe the VP spot, maybe to push John McCain a bit more toward the right, maybe because he's having so much fun playing his bass guitar and running around the country with Chuck Norris. All this got me wondering — would Mike Huckabee drop out if he were offered a cable television show? Think about it. He would have a perfect platform to spread his message and wield influence. And he could continue to enjoy the spotlight. Other expoliticians do quite nicely on TV. I love watching Morning Joe with former Congressman Joe Scarborough. And Huck seems to ham it up whenever he's on The Colbert Report.Would you watch easygoing, squirrel-eating Mike Huckabee on TV? What should he call the show?Source

CNN is projecting that Mike Huckabee has plucked the 36 Republican delegates from the Kansas caucus today. In the first contest since Mitt Romney suspended his candidacy, Huckabee took 60 percent of the vote to John McCain's 24 percent.

After his decisive victory in the Iowa caucuses, Mike Huckabee jetted away from the Hawkeye state in what could be the most profitable flight in history. Buoyed by the fabled Iowa "bounce," Huckabee's campaign netted $350,000 smackers while the candidate flew to the next contest in New Hampshire.

Though the extra cash is useful, it's worth noting that Clinton and Obama are expected to report fourth quarter earnings of $20 million each, while Mitt Romney banked $62 million (including $17 million of his own loot,) in the first three quarters, and in the 2004 primaries Kerry and Bush raised $250 and $280 million respectively.

You know, in case you ever thought $350,000 was a lot of money.
