New Toy Safety Standards Passed, Bush Signs President Bush signed Senator Mark Prior's legislation, the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008, passing the law on Thursday morning. The Senator said: "With the stroke of a pen, President Bush today signed my legislation allowing for sweeping reforms to begin taking place that will keep toxic toys and other dangerous products out of our homes."

President George W. Bush is America's ultimate fan. This weekend, the cheerleader-in-chief caught swimming finals at China's National Aquatics Center, watched the US men's basketball teams beat China, while also finding time to play some beach volleyball and say hi to the Chinese President.

The Olympics (starting on Friday!) has caused all kinds of disruptions in China as they scurry to
clean up their air — and their
sartorial statements. The
factories that produce 80 percent of the world's ascorbic acid, aka Vitamin C, crucial to cold curing and a huge part of modern food production, have been closed down. The reach of the Games preparation seems to have no bounds.
And it's not just fashion statements getting makeovers — Beijing residents are
beginning to grumble about the disruptions the Games have brought to their lives.
