I remember being excited about my own entree to kindergarten — slipping into my plaid uniform and putting on my brand new backpack hoping for homework. To Pledge or Not to Pledge The Pledge of Allegiance has been routinely said in classrooms since the 1800s. Many youngsters mumble it out of habit, but students at Woodbury Elementary in Vermont are well aware of the words they are stating. The school has banned the practice of the pledge in the classroom so students who wish to partake in the morning routine do so in the gym and then return to their studies.

Mommy Dearest: Befriend Parent Just to Get in Preschool? Mommy Dearest, My town has a few preschools, but one is extremely competitive and I'd like my son to go there. The problem is, he's my first child, so therefore I don't have the "sibling in" and spaces are few and far between. I know a mom at the playground serves on the school's board and has a lot of clout there.

Though just 200 people live in Harrold, a place that is almost absent of crime, the school board unanimously approved the decision for teachers to carry concealed weapons since the campus is located near a major highway. The district will not disclose which staff members have guns.
