
The economy continues to tumble, yet there's no end in sight when it comes to the pattern of
reviving extinguished store-bought cookie brands. Following the
rebirth of Mother's cookies by Kellogg's, snack company
Lance is
bailing out Archway, the sister company to Mother's that
also collapsed this October. Before its demise,
Archway was known nationwide for its soft-batch
cookies in various flavors such as oatmeal and nougat.

This year was a turbulent year for all, and the traditional snack cookie was no exception. Snack companies took fans on a roller coaster ride, discontinuing cookies and then announcing their revival. In January of this year, cookie classicists
reeled from the loss of the Hydrox cookie, the crispy, chocolate sandwiches the preceded the
Oreo.
Kellogg's has acquired the trademarks and recipes of
Mother's Cookies. The beloved maker of the childhood-favorite circus animal cookies
filed for bankruptcy in early October. Now Kellogg's
plans to bring the brand back and reintroduce Mother's most popular cookies.

On today's date in 1860, Will Keith Kellogg was born. Kellogg founded the Battle Creek Toasted Corn Flake Company that later became the W.K. Kellogg company.

Last week, Hershey's succumbed to the
rising prices of dairy and wheat products by
hiking up its chocolate prices. This week
Kraft Foods and Kellogg will be doing the same. This means you should be seeing an increase in your Rice Krispies, Eggos, Kraft Singles, Mac 'n' Cheese, DiGiorno pizzas, and many other products from these companies.

After realizing the threat of lawsuit from the American parents and nutrition advocacy groups, Kellogg's has decided to change its ways by 2008.
Reports are saying that by the end of 2008, Kellogg's will not market foods in TV, radio, print or Web site ads to audiences that include at least 50 percent of people under age 12 unless a single serving of the product meets certain standards. Those standards are: No more than 200 calories; no more than 230 milligrams of sodium, except for Eggo frozen waffles; no trans fat and no more than 2 grams of saturated fat; no more than 12 grams of sugar, not counting sugar from fruit, dairy and vegetables.
Looks like country music diva Leann Rimes is partnering with
Kellogg's and the
Coalition to Salute America's Heroes to raise funds for wounded and disabled veterans of the war in Iraq. Yesterday she unveiled her specially marked boxes of Kellogg's Corn Flakes that will help raise money for the coalition. The boxes, which show an image of Rimes, will each contain a code for an exclusive
music download.
