The 2009 award season officially kicked off in NYC last night with some of the faces we'll be seeing a lot of over the next few months. Penelope Cruz and Sean Penn were among the winners at the
New York Film Critics Circle Awards. Josh Brolin also won an acting award for
Milk and shared the love with his costar on the red carpet.

Javier Bardem and Penelope Cruz were spotted together as the two walked around the Geneva airport yesterday bundled up against the cold. We were a little worried that this
sexy couple was having some
relationship trouble but it looks like they were just laying low and are still going strong with a little New Year's vacation time. The Golden Globes are coming up and with
Vicky Cristina Barcelona racking up nominations, Javier and Penelope could be walking the red carpet and coming home with trophies next weekend!

After getting
dressed up on Wednesday, Penelope Cruz looked casual heading to another screening of
Vicky Cristina Barcelona last night. This time she was at the BAFTA headquarters in London, and promoting the film must be even sweeter now that she's picked up
a SAG nomination for her performance. Penelope never has a problem wowing us, but we're even more interested in whether we'll see her with Javier again to put the
rumors to rest and keep this
sexy couple going strong in 2009.

Penelope Cruz looked gorgeous last night at a screening of
Vicky Cristina Barcelona alongside costar Rebecca Hall and her good friend Pedro Alomodovar in London. Penelope and her
little movie that could are getting noticed this awards season, and she has one more red carpet to look forward to — she was nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award for Best Supporting Actress. Other favorites like
Benjamin Button,
Doubt, and
Milk picked up a few nods as well, with Brad and Angelina grabbing his and hers nominations yet again —
check out the full list of nominees here.
Golden Globe nominee Penelope Cruz joined Bono in Paris on Friday for the Nobel Peace Prize World Summit, a day after
Scarlett Johansson hosted the organization's annual concert in Norway. Bono brought his wife Ali, who chatted with Penelope as he mingled with the First Lady of France, Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, and Ingrid Betancourt, the former Columbian hostage who also recently
met with Madonna. They were gathered by past Peace Prize recipients to bestow upon Bono a "
man of peace" award, adding yet another distinction to his
lengthy list of humanitarian awards.

Penelope Cruz was missing all her costars, but was happy to take the stage at the Variety screening of
Vicky Cristina Barcelona in NYC yesterday. She wasn't all
red carpet done up, she looked effortlessly gorgeous as always. While
Scarlett is overseas promoting
The Spirit, it wasn't expected that Javier Bardem would make an appearance with Penelope — whether or not the
rumors of a rough patch are true.

Thanks to the
18th Annual Gotham Independent Film Awards, we got a glimpse of five sleek red carpet looks. Penelope Cruz turned out in a sophisticated and demure Lanvin look. Rachel Weisz went for asymmetrical stripes in Narciso Rodriguez.

When it comes to red-carpet events — celeb stylists, makeup artists, and hair experts work together to create the most stunning looks for the stars. And as these 12 months wind down, we're recapping the
Best of 2008. So, it's time to cast your vote for your favorite award-show look.

Here's the scenario: You show up at a crowded bar, heavily male populated, and all eyes are on you — in a good way. True story. I don't know what it is, but hats can be very alluring.

Movie award season kicked off last night in NYC with the 2008 Gotham Awards. We should get used to seeing some of these winners names and some of these familiar faces when the New Year comes along and Award Season really gets rolling, but for now the group took the red carpet to start honoring each other. While Frozen River took home the top honors, Michelle Williams and Penelope Cruz both had reasons to smile.
