Kate Winslet has earned two more acting nominations for her work in Revolutionary Road and The Reader, this time in the Screen Actors Guild awards. Danny Boyle's movie Slumdog Millionaire, starring Skins actor Dev Patel is up for Best Ensemble. — BBC
Every previous Doctor Who will appear in this year's Christmas special alongside current Doctor David Tennant, including Jon Pertwee, Tom Baker, Patrick Troughton and Peter Davison. Some will be featured from archive footage. — Daily Mail

From the 27th November, the BBC will make BBC One and BBC Two available to watch live online as they air. The corporation is adding their two main channels to the ones already available, which include News 24, BBC Three and BBC Four. So will you watch their shows like Strictly Come Dancing online when you can't get to a television? Let me know in the poll, and leave me your thoughts in the comments!Source

Looking at British designers such as Paul Smith and Ozwald Boateng the documentary looked back at the tailoring industry from 1900s to the present day. This autumn, the BBC are treating us to a star-studded 13-part TV series Merlin which will feature appearances from Anthony Head, Santiego Cabrera, Michelle Ryan, Richard Wilson and John Hurt. It's already been picked up to air in the US on NBC, and after seeing this trailer I'm really looking forward to seeing it. The series is being advertised in cinemas as well as on TV thanks to its epic nature, but what do you think – will you be watching when it airs? Source

Wow. I haven't thought of this show in ages. The Young Ones was an '80s BBC comedy about four unlikely roommates — a punk rocker, Vyvyan, an anarchist, Rick, a short guy who wore sunglasses all the time, Mike, and my favorite, a hippie named Neil. In this episode, Neil (poor thing, he always made tea and food for his meanie roommates), displays typical problem solving skills when he discovers the lentils he wants to cook are trapped behind precariously organized plates and bowls in the cupboard. How will he get to them without breaking everything? And will Vyvyan be of any help? Let's see. . .

It has been revealed that in September BBC2 will be showing a series about British fashion and style called 'British Style Genius'.

The programme questions what makes British style and fashion so distinct considering the looks and trends that have come to define British style.

They will consider all aspects of the industry from the High Street to couture, from bespoke tailoring to street cool, and from fashion rebels to traditionalist Sloanes. Contributions will come from Kate Moss, Twiggy, Vivienne Westwood and Alexander McQueen to name but a few.

Kate Moss rarely appears on TV but the programme shows her in meetings with Sir Philip Green, and trying on clothes whilst speculating on British eclectic style.

The influence of British style has never been so prevalent with many designers interpreting HRH Queen Elizabeth's style on the catwalk as seen here at D&G.

Maysoon Shaladi has walked out of the Big Brother house – saying she did not feel comfortable – after only four weeks. She received criticism from fellow housemates when her audition tape was shown at the weekend, and was one of nine housemates up for eviction this week. – BBC
A clip of Oasis' new single "The Shock Of The Lightning" has been uploaded to YouTube. The single's out on September 29, with their album Dig Out Your Soul following on October 6. – NME
The BBC has been fined £400,000 for its "unfair" phone-ins, as they misled audiences and faked winners in viewer and listener compeitions. – Independent

TV Today: Get Spaced on BBC America

For all you folks who are huge fans of the Simon Pegg-Jessica Hynes comedy Spaced, you've probably already ordered or put at the top of your Netflix queue the new series DVDs, which are releasing this upcoming Tuesday, July 22. For everyone else, BBC America is awesomely running marathons of the show today, starting at 3:00 p.m. EST.

According to EW, those of you holding out for the DVDs will certainly not be disappointed, as they feature "uber-geeky, super-amusing, very informative commentary by Quentin Tarantino, Kevin Smith, Matt Stone, Bill Hader, Patton Oswalt, Diablo Cody, and of course show creators-stars Simon Pegg and Jessica Hynes, and director Edgar Wright."

In the meantime, I'm going to make my TiVo work overtime today with both this marathon and the Mad Men one. Yippee!

Which British Monarch Deserves the Failure Crown?

While Americans only have 43 leaders to rate historically, the Brits have many more centuries of eccentric monarchs to discuss and criticize.

British historians want to figure out which monarch was the biggest failure. King George III didn't make the list, since I guess the Brits can't decide whether to thank or blame him for losing the American colonies.

Here are the credentials of the top three royal losers. Who should take the crown as Britain's worst monarch?

Mary Queen of Scots (1542-1567) aka "Mary Queen of Murder Plots " — Her involvement in the murder of her husband forced her into exile in England. Once there, she was imprisoned for 19 years, and eventually executed for plotting to kill the Queen of England.
Edward II (1307- 1327) aka "King Pay Back's a Bi*ch" — After losing a war with Scotland he imprisoned his estranged wife. But, his wife got the last laugh, as her army later imprisoned him and forced him to abdicate the throne for incompetence.
George IV (1820-1830) aka "The Playboy Prince" — Known for his excessive lifestyle and womanizing, he married his cousin to clear his debts. He went on to ban his estranged cousin/wife from his coronation.

BBC To Close Gap Between TV Show Airdates In US and UK

The BBC has announced exciting plans to aim to show episodes of the third series of Heroes within a week of the US premiering that same episode. As a big TV fan, I am buzzing about this decision, and hope that ITV, Channel 4 and other channels are taking notice and making plans to follow suit. Along with being able to view shows online, this is just one more way that the internet is changing the face of TV – it is now so easy to mistakenly read spoilers of your favourite American TV shows. If the shows are airing months after they were first shown in the States information can be almost impossible to avoid – especially if the show is mystery-driven or there's a huge plot twist!

For instance, the episode of Gossip Girl that finally aired in the UK last night revealed a massive secret that a friend of mine read about by mistake on a US blog two months ago. It will be so much easier to avert our eyes for a few days, rather than a few months in the future – and it will also mean that we can discuss some shows with our American buddies just after they air!

So, are you happy that the BBC is taking this step to close the gap in broadcasting dates between the US and UK? Let me know!
