Although I'm organized all the time (yeah right), I can appreciate a little bit of help from my gadgets to keep me on track. Between work, play, and home life, there are a ton of appointments and meetings that can slip through the cracks with a busy schedule. So if you are a teensy bit unorganized yourself, I've come up with five ways for you to utilize your flashy (and not-so flashy) essentials to keep you in line and check one New Year's resolution off your list.

Use your iPhone to count down to the first big historical event of the year — President-elect
Barack Obama's inauguration. The free
2009 Presidential Inauguration Guide has a countdown to January 20, as well as a guide to Washington D.C., if you're lucky enough to be in town that day.
Wherever you are, the app's screen tells you how far you are from the steps of the inauguration — and the country's new prez.

I don't know about you, but my iPhone is filled with pics — and don't even get me started on how many I've taken in the past week! Although I upload them onto my laptop, I often wish there was an easier way to print them up. Printing guru's Hewlett-Packard have just
released a new iPhone app called HP iPrint Photo that works with your wireless network and printer to print up 4x6 photos directly from your iPhone or iPod Touch.

My favorite thing about living in a city: not having to have a car. My least favorite thing about living in a city: not having a ride home and struggling to get a cab.
The free iPhone app
Taxi Magic was made for me — and anyone else who ever needs to use taxis.

Apple's iPhone App Store is already oozing with holiday applications for you to feast your eyes on. Whether you're looking for some helpful tools to get you through this holiday season, or you prefer some entertaining apps instead, I've rounded up five of my faves to help you in your quest. Enjoy!

Just in time for the holidays, someone realized that there has been a huge virtual snowglobe shortage in my life and came to the rescue with
eSnowglobe! Using your iPhone's accelerometer, you can shake the snowflakes around your Christmas tree, and even kick up some powder with a flick of your finger.
I remember staring at falling snowflakes for hours when I was a kid.

It looks like Weezer is more than happy to be a part of iPhone app history; not only did they come out with a
Christmas version of Tap Tap Revenge, the band plays the game, too!
This photo was snapped of the guys taking a break from playing in a Los Angeles studio last Friday. I've loved the band a long time (the original arbiters of geek chic, you know), and now that I see that they practice what they preach, I have re-fallen for them.

TiVo addict in the house here — and there is finally an app for the iPhone for my TiVo.
DVR Shows is a 99-cent app, and while you can't control your DVR with it, you can see what shows are recorded and currently on your TiVo (as well as what's about to delete) when you're on your home WiFi network.
I'm still holding out for the app that lets me add and delete shows from my iPhone wherever I am, but baby steps don't bother me one bit.

It's true that I sometimes complain about how expensive some iPhone apps can be. Although paying $15 for a language learning app doesn't seem unreasonable, there are tons of other translation apps out there that are much more wallet-friendly that catch my eye.
Recently, CNN wondered about the
potential of the App Store to become the "Crap Store," with its high number of featured free and 99-cent apps (that may be lacking in quality), while more expensive and useful apps get less promotional love because of their price tag.
