All things considered, I find it hard to believe that the NBER withheld the information in hopes of preserving the shopping spirit for Black Friday. I would be really incredulous of anyone who thought that Balck Friday would magically fix all that woes our economy.

From my understanding, sales were up, but profits were down due to the deep discounts being offered anyway.

Reminds me of a time a little more than a year ago that my husband and I were telling a couple of ignorant folks in our community that a recession was occuring and would be more severe in the future. Of course, they decided to debate with us on it. An evil part of me feels like telling them, "I told you so," but that would be cruel considering their house went into foreclosure.
