whats cyber monday? and its just so sad that this would happen, people need to calm down and relax its not like black friday is the only day to shop for the holidays. nothing is worth having someone die over, just sad.

It is reported that when the shoppers were told they had to leave because an employee died b/c he was trampled by shoppers the people got angry and started shouting "But I've been in line since Friday morning."

The sales aren't even that great, one item, which only 8 are available is REALLY marked down, everything else just hovers around the same price. But that is what is like with our over-the-top consumerism, if something says "HUGE SALE" you must buy it. Black Friday makes more money on hype then actual discounts.

Cyber Monday is the Monday after Thanksgiving and it is supposedly when the most online shopping occurs.

I feel so sorry for the family of that worker. Those people who trampled him disgust me. Was the discount that important to them? Was it worth a human life?

People are so heartless and stupid, on top of greedy.
These are the same people who will be b*tching that they don't have enough money to pay the bills but they sure have enough to spend on crap that will break in about a month just so they can say they saved 10 bucks on the damn thing.

What really sickens me is that there's a cell phone video posted up of a bunch of people laughing at that man's fate while the EMTs try to save him:

Dont you think that black friday should be cancelled? or make the sales online? like "from 4am to 7am everything will be 50%off in our website"?? I live in Mexico and the border crossing was insane since wednesday in the afternoon.
I heard that some guys were shot at Toys R Us. 3 people dead just for saving some money is totally not worth it.

In mexico the USA financial crisis is having its toll (obviously, since our economy depends of yours). We pay rent in dollars (1 dollar use to be $10 pesos, now its $13.50) so we are paying 35% extra, wich equals in almost 0 money for christmas. But no biggie, im just looking forward to spend time with my family and have a lovely dinner. Holidays are not about presents, its about love and union, specially in this difficult times.

That video almost made me cry, people are SO effed up.

Money is not the root of all evil, people are. And i'm incredulous that they actually slash those prices. In fact, i think it's bull.

These people clearly suffered from a temporary form of insanity. It will only be a matter of time before the so called starter pistol store opening will be outlawed. Unfortunately it may take a few more people to get killed but as soon as we loose enough lives we'll be willing to write the new law.

I never go shopping in the morning first thing after Thanksgiving. I let the loons go first then they poop out around 1:00 and I arrive at 2:00.

Its absolutely disgusting. I like many Americans enjoy my Black Friday shopping, but I despise how people treat others on the day. Especially to disregard a human's life? Its disgusting, people have no regards for another individual/persons lives except just to get material things. I was driving out of the mall parking lot and this woman zoomed at of no where going at least 40mph if i hadn't seen her who knows where I'd be today. And many more too. i hate how people drive and treat others on the day. I feel bad for the workers most of all dealing with people's attitudes the whole day.

Sue the pants out of Walmart- send a message to these big box discount chains to stop advertising "door buster" specials when they can't protect their customers and employees from the madness that occurs. It happens every year, they know it will happen, so either provide security, or stop offering 10 tvs that are $200 off. I agree that the people in the crowd were acting savage, and that a mob mentality must have overtaken them, but Wal-mart knows this is going to happen every year.

I never go shopping the day after thanksgiving because it's always a mess, and this event in particular is the worst I have ever heard of. This is really a shame, I hope his family sues Walmart because on some level they should have better organized this...it's like they want a frenzy so they can get press etc.

It wold be a shame to sue Wal-Mart. I think it would be better to go after the 2000+ people that trampled him. Stores have the right to offer discounts, especially in an ecconomy that is as rough as it currently is. It's the consumers (shoppers) who are responsible for this attrocity.

I agree with UD. I can't stand opportunists who try to get a zillion dollars when tragedy strikes instead of actually going after the source of the problem. The people in the crowds are the guilty ones. And what the hell is up with the cell phone video?? Sick f*ck.

Wow. This is just horrible. People are truly dumb and have a complete disregard of respect for everyone around them. A dumb discount is definitely not worth this. It's just sickening.

One of the employees came out before the store opened and told the mob of people that the store was opening early... then a minute later he said, "just kidding." So that is part of the reason why they were really riled up...

Suing one company won't fix this, and jailing the people won't fix this.

This mindset - this mentality - runs deeper than that one mob of people, and until THAT changes, its like putting a bandaid on a stab wound.

NotPrincess (Comment 12): The Toys R Us shooting started with two women fighting over something that had nothing to do with Toys R Us or any shopping issues. Their argument escalated into a physical altercation. The two (not three) men with them shot each other.

This sounds to me like a personal issue that overflowed into the store. No fault of the retailer's.

wow, I pretty much echo the sentiments in the other posts. Embarrassing doesn't even begin to describe this.

An event like this just seems to highlight everything that is wrong with people. The greed, the selfishness, the total lack of compassion. I hope that the people who trampled him are shamed and shunned by their friends and family. Because it's going to be impossible to prosecute.

I was hoping that maybe this year since the economy is in bad shape that people would start to remember that Christmas isn't about gifts and money. Guess not.

Those people should be ashamed of themselves. This story absolutely sickens me.

My friend says the first 50 people need to be put in jail, I don't know about that but some one(s) need to be held accountable.

In a way, I do hope Wal-Mart gets sued. Wouldn't common sense dictate that maybe, because these people are apparently elephants who would rather kill someone than miss getting their children whatever stupid toy is popular right now, groups of people should be let in, little by little, instead of opening the doors and just letting the hoards in? Maybe I'm just, I don't know, thinking here, but it seems like some type of "30 people at a time" rule might be helpful in preventing such a senseless act of violence.

I also hope that the people who trampled this poor man wake up every day thinking about what they did so they could get a stupid present for someone else.

This is absolutely horrible.

It's just the mentality of getting something before everyone else. It doesn't even necessarily have to be at a store. I remember when I was about 14 my family went to Disney World we got there right when the park opened. They let you in, but only past Main Street...then you have to wait behind these barriers. We were at the very front of the line but hundreds of people milled in behind us. When they finally moved the barricades they actually said READY SET GO. Next thing I knew people were sprinting into the park in droves. I remember my Uncle grabbing my hand and telling me not to look back as we dashed towards Space Mountain. It was very exciting as a child, but in retrospect I see how incredibly dangerous it was. People are lunatics in situations like that. They lose all sense.

Em- I think that trying to only let in 30 people at a time would just result in the same kind of mad rush/pushing/stampeding in order to be in the first group. The kind of people who would run someone down and kill them are not the kind of people that would patiently wait while 30 people in front of them are calmly escorted into the store.

Well, then up security. Arrange for fenced-in areas outside or some type of barricades like they have at concerts and put people with bullhorns out there to keep the animals (because that's what they are--not humans) somehow organized. There has to be some way around this type of behavior, and it's someone's job to take the worst-case scenario and somehow plan for it.

This is disgusting.
