Restaurant Drops "Naked" Promo to Appease Town Council

Would you run naked down to the dock and jump in for a free "Skinny Dip" sandwich? If that sounds like a fair price for a free lunch, the town council of Greenville, ME, advises you to think again.

The town's Black Frog Restaurant stopped its promotion offering a sliced prime rib on a baguette for free (regularly $10.95) to diners willing to run naked into Moosehead Lake. The reason? The town council (perhaps in cahoots with the local police department, who'd been responding to complaints about nudity, a misdemeanor in their community) was holding the restaurant's liquor license renewal hostage. The local police chief said that he would most certainly recommend any business lose its license that promoted an ongoing campaign to encourage illegality.

The restaurant has (sadly? That depends, I suppose . . . ) ended its promotion, stating that "au jus" wins out over "au naturel."

I would have to see the sandwich, to know if it was worth doing that. If it was, I'd do it twice.

    Eye-wink

This is hilarious. If you don't want to see naked people, don't go to this restaurant. I guess it all depends on what is nearby to the place. If there really isn't anything, and all involved knew about it, what's the problem?

well..i think that it's really funny that they used this as a gimmik and that people would do it, but i can understand why the police would want them to stop seeing as how it IS against the law there right? i can't say that i would ever go running nekkid into a lake for free food, unless i was really poor and super hungry!

In my opinion, who can blame this restaurant for wanting to bring a little spice to what seems to be a rather uptight place to live?

I've done worse for food, but then again, my appetite is almost legendary, at least at my office.

I think this is sad - the kind of thing that would make us all chuckle and smile, had it been a movie scene, gets the puritannical bs treatment in real life. Sad

People hardly bat an eye at the greater crimes of this world, and yet a little arse-cheek running down the street sends them into a tizzy. Ridiculous.
