Day Two: The Democratic Party Unites With Hillary's Big Speech

Dressed in radiant orange, Hillary Clinton, runner-up in the historic Democratic primary, owner of those 18 million cracks in the glass ceiling, brought down the house. The vibe in the air, in the city, and in the arena was one of unadulterated excitement.

Excitement that the candidate who made it so far in the race was here to lend her formidable prowess to the candidate to be, pride over what she accomplished, respect for how she did it, and a little bit of ownership over the memories. Regardless of who voted for whom, in Denver tonight, Democrats came together.

Hillary Clinton, long accused of splintering the party during the agonizing months of the campaign, successfully made the Democrats whole. With signs waving in the stands with "Unity" on one side, and "Obama" on the other, Hillary made even those who aren't Democrats proud to be part of the country that made her candidacy possible. The mood is ebullient and electric, weepy and thrilled. To some tonight, Hillary Clinton just became the new Bill. But that's just what I think — what about you?

(I was a little surprised to see Citizen wrote this! )

I think she did an amazing job. I think she broke it down in a way that clearly spelled out what is at stake, and I think she was graceful and feisty all at the same time.

I didn't get choked up, but she did a great job. A few of the other speakers so far have bored me to tears, but so far our nightly headliners are two for two Smiling

I thought she was phenomenal. It's between this one and her resignation speech for me. I think she even won over Michelle by the end...she was giving her eyes at the beginning. LOL

Having to switch threads like this is comparable to having to stop peeing midstream.

Michelle looked a little weepy towards the end, I thought. And she seemed genuinely surprised and pleased when Hillary acknowledged her.

CNN just aired that awful McCain add using Hillary's primary words against Barack. Ugh. I hope Barack and Hillary get together to make a response ad.

McCain already released an official response to Hillary's speech. They said that she built her campaign by claiming BO was not ready to lead and she didn't say he was ready to lead tonight. I think you have to look really hard to find anything negative to say about her speech. Her generosity in that speech was breath taking.

    It's almost 5am here in London, but I was looking forward to Sen.Clinton's speech. I was hoping for more than what she delivered;

It was a very good, strong, emotional speech but it still felt like a "here are the reasons why you should have voted for me"
-but you haven't so go for Obama if you're still up for a Democrat running the country.

"No way. No how. No McCain"

GREAT speech and GREAT delivery! So many notable points. A favorite was when she asked her supporters:

"Were you in this campaign just for me? Or were you in it for that young Marine and others like him? Were you in it for that mom struggling with cancer while raising her kids? Were you in it for that boy and his mom surviving on the minimum wage? Were you in it for all the people in this country who feel invisible?"

She went right to the heart of why it doesn't make sense for her supporters to turn to around and vote for McCain if they really support what she stands for.

    I also liked:

Obama will "revitalize our economy, defend the working people of America, and meet the global challenges of our time. Democrats know how to do this. As I recall, President Clinton and the Democrats did it before. And President Obama and the Democrats will do it again."

And finally, her Harriett Tubman quote brought tears to my eyes.

Looking forward to Bill's speech tomorrow. Smiling

Yeah, the Clintons did it by slashing the military, and ignoring potential threats to our nation. (3 terrorist attacks without a response.)
I look forward to 4 years of that.

THAT was my favorite part woop! Thank you for putting the actual quote instead of paraphrasing it like I did.

I have to admit that I was a little worried when she started telling the same stories (marine, cancer victim, etc.) BUT the way she tied it into that quote was brilliant.

Sorry. Just tired of the Liberal bashing of the Republicans that I've been hearing all day. I couldn't even get fair and balanced on my XM station POTUS 08. Very disappointing. I won't make anymore rain here tonight Eye-wink

Ah, isn't the "roll eye" excellent!
It shows you have a point and you know how to articulate it!

Only joking, I really am interested in the Clinton years and all the wrong/spurious decisions..During Bill's presidency I lived in a country whose media was so anti-american/Nato etc it was laughable.
Please UnDave, could you elaborate? : )
