I do like Romney, I was surprised he didn't get the nomination himself. However, I sort of expected McCain to choose a woman.

If not Romney then I'd like to see Bobby Jindal. I think he'd make an excellent VP.

I've lived in Denver and there are bigger problems that the cops should be dealing with instead of people smoking pot.

    Romney strengthens the ticket immeasurably.
He brings down the average age.
    He understands the economy.
    He looks good.

what about reagan? he's not doing much these days, is he? he'd also add a bit of "life" to the ticket!

Romney is a good, formidable pick.

If HRC is really getting together a team to make sure there aren't pro Hilary/anti Obama demonstrations at the DNC, than that is awfully big of her.

I think Romney makes sense for a lot of reasons, but I wonder how they are going to get over the nasty things they said about each other during primary season.

McCain had a "robocall" that said, "Unfortunately, on issue after issue, Mitt Romney has treated special issues voters as fools, thinking they won't catch on...Sorry, Mitt, we know you aren't trust-worthy on the most important issues and you aren't a conservative."

Romney said, "Senator McCain was against the Bush tax cuts and now he says he's for the Bush tax cuts. He was against ethanol, then for ethanol, then against ethanol. I think Senator McCain is willing to say anything to try and get elected. He's been looking for this job for a long, long time."

But I guess politics makes strange bed fellows!

Mitt Romney is an interesting choice. For some reason, I thought he was disliked during the campaign season and that Republicans were upset with the idea of a Mormon being in power. I guess it's not as important if he's a VP...I don't really have an opinion either way, since I won't be voting for John McCain, but I was just interested in the seemingly sudden turnaround. Maybe I'm thinking of someone else Puzzled

It's nice that Hillary is trying to keep anti-Obama supporters at bay during the DNC, if that's true.

Smoking pot should be the least of anyone's problems. Pot is not a big deal compared to alcohol and other drugs, and I've never even smoked pot.

Janneth, dont forget he also has strong ties with Michigan, which is a vulnerable swing state. I think Romney does make a lot of sense.

i don't know how i feel about the whole mitt romney selection. there was a speech that he made a few months back, and he brought religion into it and that really upset me. it's one thing to relate to one religion or another, but he took it to another level, and that was really uncomfortable for me to listen to. i think that i was leaning to vote for mccain even though i'm a democrat - but now - i don't know. maybe i'll see who the indy is - or who obama finally settled on.

i hope this is true! Mitt was my pick for President however I can settle for second Eye-wink
And I agree Piper, Bobby Jindal would make a GREAT pick but he continues to deny that its going to happen. I hope he runs in the future, he's a great addition to the party

Mitt Romney just seems so...I don't even know the right word I'm looking for. Smarmy? Slimey? He just rubs me the wrong way, even more than a normal Republican. He just seems (to me) like a jackass.

Ooh careful Torg, you'll be hearing from his rabid fan club soon! I said I think he's stupid a couple of weeks ago and got serious sh*t for it. Didn't change my opinion though.

I'm surprised so many people do like him. I never thought he had a serious shot at the nomination, but then again it's no surprise that he wouldn't appeal to me, is it?

I think that's an excellent point Torg. He's not going to appeal to you because his politics are completely opposite to yours. Nevermind that he is a business genius, and has taken several floundering companies, and turned them around.

I find him entertaining. He's such a caricature of a politician... or a used-car salesman Smiling. But like UnDave said, the man knows how to run a business. I'm not wild about his politics (like the universal health insurance mandate in his state) but I think he could be very appealing to voters. Still, I have wild hopes McCain will go with Kay Bailey Hutchinson. Maybe then I could really get behind his candidacy!

"Nevermind" to his experience in business? I wouldn't want to discount it. I know about it, and I still just don't like him. But again, I'm not the target audience.

I live in MA and wasn't impressed with Romney as Governor. He left MA in a bad way after his term ended. Schools going down the tubes, libraries closing and towns millions of dollars in debt. Prop 2 and a half is more to blame than his governing, but he didn't exactly keep MA from going down the drain. His universal health care plan is impractical. The MA plan is so expensive, that many people cannot afford it yet don't qualify for state aid. With the state policy costing so much, the universal health care plan is doomed.

Wait, who is the troll here? Isn't a troll someone who posts something deliberately controversial to elicit a response? As far as I can tell, everyone posting here seems to be sincere.

And no, I don't regularly read it. Just a lucky coincidence today. I know it's supposed to be your special little place to talk trash about people, but if you don't want someone to read something...well, don't post it publicly on the internet!

Troll: a race of giants. They appear in various Northern mythologies. In Norse mythology trolls are represented as a type of goblin.

hahhaa. i'm glad i just finally went back to read this to see how offended you all got over one silly joke. i mean, really! get over it! reagan was my president too (though thankfully i was too young to remember most of it), and if i want to make a joke about him i believe i'm within my rights.

perhaps it was too subtle for you, but the point i was making is that if he could, john mccain would drag out the corpse of RR out to get some votes from the conservative christian voters. he's been conjuring his memory enough throughout the campaign (remember the primaries?!). if he picks romney his desire to be president over his own convictions will be so utterly transparent that even HE will be humiliated. personally, i hope he does choose romney - the man is divisive and creepy and will lose the election for mccain.

It was two (bad) puns about how Reagan's dead. Not subtle and not funny. I'm not really offended, I just think it was in poor taste. But you get all kinds on the internet.

Wikipedia: "An Internet troll, or simply troll in Internet slang, is someone who posts controversial and irrelevant or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum or chat room, with the intention of provoking other users into an emotional response or to generally disrupt normal on-topic discussion."
