Listen Up: Raisin' McCain by John Rich

I've been waiting to hear this! After we checked out the candidates' favorite songs last week, some of you commented on Obama putting a song written for him on his top 10 — and McCain has a tribute song of his own!

Country singer John Rich of the Big & Rich Country band and Nashville Star, debuted "Raisin' McCain" live at an event earlier this month. As a "fight" song, it didn't get to me quite the way this one always does, but pretty cool nonetheless.

Check out the whole song — what do you think?

"You can get on the train or get out of the way
    We're all just raisin' McCain"
Kind of our way or the highway, isn't it?

Exactly Mich. And steph, it is a country song from a country band. It is a different style. But I wouldn't expect you to have found even one note to your particular taste.

I listen to some country artists, but I don't like the song. Maybe it's because I think very little of John McCain. Maybe I just don't like the song.

Toby Keith was mentioned because his song is also linked above.

Speaking of Toby Keith was any one else ticked off by his recent comments. So saying he's a waste of air is being polite.

"During Keith's appearance on the July 30 broadcast of Beck's show, he remarked, "I think the black people would say he [Obama] don't talk, act or carry himself as a black person."

Wow Lil, thanks. I like Toby Keith as an artist. I just didn't know he had insight into how black people felt about Obama and how one carry themselves as black.

I didn't think much of Toby Keith during his "feud" with the Dixie Chicks. This just confirmed for me that the man is an ignorant jerk.

Lil, I don't follow the feuds. Furthermore, I would like to know what Keith what he meant by acting white. I wonder what his definition is of acting white.

"What does that even mean?" the audibly shocked Beck replied.

"Well, I don't know what that means," Keith drawled, "but I think that that's what they would say. Even though the black society would pull for him I still think that they think in the back of their mind that the only reason he is in [the general election] is because he talks, acts and carries himself as a Caucasian."

I'd like to know what he meant by acting white as well. Does it have anything to do with language, style of dress, haircut, the way one walks? I'd really like to see someone ask Toby Keith for his definition.

Lil, I can only say he is an expert on everything white and black - he must be very proud of himself.

That Toby Keith song is ridiculous. It's embarrassing. "We'll stick a boot up your ass, it's the American Way!" ? Not my way.

Just curious, GreatSommelier, would you expect me to like it? It's catchy, but not my favorite country song.

No, I wouldn't expect you to like it. Nothing you have ever said on this site, my only view into your world, would lead me to believe you would enjoy it.

Because people with progressive politics don't like country music or just because I'm a democrat? Not trying to be challenging, just curious.

When did we start talking about the entire genre of country music? I am talking about the two songs referenced.

I'm sorry that I'm making you feel defensive, I'm really not trying to. I'm happy to consider the whole comment. I just used part for the sake of brevity:

"Exactly Mich. And steph, it is a country song from a country band. It is a different style. But I wouldn't expect you to have found even one note to your particular taste."

It is a different style from what?

I obviously didn't write it as clearly as I could have. I was stating that country music tends to be pretty matter of fact sometimes. This song, being a country song, as well as the Keith song, falls into that genre.

Okay. It kind of read like, "it's a different style than what you normally listen to," but I gotcha now.

And again, this is where I see someone brought up the genre as a whole...

It's interesting that when a singer supports the wrong candidate, suddenly they are "never cared for", or is a "waste of air".

I suppose that happens, but I've known Toby Keith was a douche since long before Obama was even running.

That's why singers should just keep it to themselves. I think it's fair to assume that the majority of Big and Rich's audience is voting for McCain, but it still gets old. It can really hurt musicians sometimes, too. We all remember the Dixie Chicks flap.

It made me like the Dixie Chicks more! But too bad it wasn't good for their record sales. IT made me laugh when people smashed their cds, or even better, bought their cds so they could smash them. What do they care?

It really irritated me that she would say that because 1- it didn't make sense (he's not really from Texas!) and 2- she said it overseas instead of here at home. But I guess its a good thing in the end because the songs it inspired on their new album are really incredible songs.

Nope, born in Connecticut. But I guess you could say he's "from" Texas. It was just a silly thing for her to say because it didn't have any actual point. The reaction was unbelievable, though.

Eh, per his official White House bio, he was raised in Texas, went to school in Texas, returned after college to buy the Texas Rangers and served as the Governor of Texas for four terms. I think that counts as being "from" there. I see why she said it. I'd be embarrassed to be from the same state, too. The reaction was ridiculous, though.

I guess as a native Texan I'm a little picky about who gets to be "from" Texas Smiling. It's silly to be embarrassed to be from the same place as another person.

Tell me about it. Almost every state has someone they can be embarrased about. IL has several, come to think about it. Eye-wink

Why is that silly? People sure are proud of famous people they like being from their state or town. It's just the same concept in reverse.

    Laughing out loud
When my wife and I were first married, I was umpiring a baseball game, and she was sitting in the crowd. This teeny bopper was sitting next to her, and she mentioned to my wife: "Dave looks like Kenny Chesney, especially with a cowboy hat. Yeah, he'd be real hot!" This little girl was totally hot for me, and my wife just laughed.

I don't care who Toby Keith votes for he's a joke. After I saw his Ford commercials I thought about writing the company to complain. I have nothing against Big & Rich. I just don't like the song.
