Red, gold, and the wordless melody of the Spanish national anthem filled Vienna's Ernst-Happel stadium Sunday night, as Spain beat Germany 1-0 to win the European Championship and end 44 years of underachieving.

Back in Madrid, Spain, fans and patriots waved the Spanish flag, watched fireworks, and partied in the streets. Firefighters cooled off the Summer celebration by spraying the crowds with water.

Check out the photos of Spanish jubilation and German disappointment. Spain's Queen, and Germany's Chancellor make cameos!

Haha my Spanish flatmate was so excited last night, he ended up lifting my other flatmate in his arm and sort of shaking her left and right! Laughing out loud

Haaha I was rooting for Germany, beacuse I went to a German school, but I knew that Spain was going to win. And I think they deserved it they played well, and the germans just didn't.
And am I the only one who thought it was frustrating that they didn't let Torres hold the cup until after like 5 mins even though he scored the winning goal?

Congrats to Spain. They truly were the best team of the tournament, so their win was very much deserved.
Germany had a very poor game last night, but I'm optimistic about the team's future. Smiling
The best thing though is that Metzelder finally got rid of the beard today (he didn't shave during the tournament out of superstition).

As I live in Germany I was very disappointed. It was so sad to see the German team after the game. You just want to give'em a hug.

Does anybody else think there should be a sports sugar? They were talking about this on a thread on Pop. I think it is a good idea.

A sports sugar would be great. Specially with the olympics coming up...

As for the EURO final: certainly one of the worse games during the tournament, but Spain won well-deserved. It's nice to see that every now and then the best team wins the cup - and not Italy. LOL!

Even though I'm German and still slightly disappointed I'm glad the cup is safe in Spain. They'll take good care of it until we'll get it in 4 years. Laughing out loud
