I couldn't be more sad to report that Tim Russert of NBC's Meet the Press has died of a heart attack. The New York Times reports they heard the news from Russert's family.

Upon announcing the news, Tom Brokaw said, “this news division will not be the same without his strong, clear voice.” Russert is survived by his wife Maureen Orth and their adult son, Luke. He was 58 years old.

I think everyone is shocked at Tim Russert's death. Totally unexpected. A terrific newsman and he will be missed. First David Bloom, then the horrific ordeal Bob Woodruff went through and now Tim Russert. All way too young.

I'm so sad about this. I watch him tv so much I guess I feel like I know him. On MSNBC they said his wife and son are still in Italy. Russert had just returned. Brokaw and Brian Williams started to cry on air.

Someone at my work e-mailed us all about this about 20 minutes ago. It's so sad! I definitely recommend both of his books; they would make great last-minute Father's Day gifts.

Just shocking. What a loss to journalism and politics. I saw Brokaw break the news live and got choked up seeing him holding back the emotion to do his job and report the death of his good friend and colleague. Then Andrew Mitchell and Brian Williams having to do the same. Just sad.

Rest in Peace, Tim. You will be greatly missed.

I am so saddened and shocked. As a hopeless political junkie, I have religiously watched Meet the Press. He was the same age as my Dad, I feel so bad for his family and friends, this is a great loss for political journalism.

I am very shocked and saddened. Whenever I see him on tv, I get caught watching. I'll never look at a mini-dry-erase board the same. What a tragic day for a respected journalist and his family. My thoughts and prayers...

wow- I heard this about 2 hours ago from a journalist actually. I am in complete shock- such a tragedy for his family -who are still in Italy apparently. He was such a very unique personality who was so good at his job. I think it will be hard to find someone half as good at interviewing people and getting truthful answers out of them. May he rest in peace, and I hope and pray his family can find the strength to get through this.

I am completely in shock. I love Meet the Press and Tim Russert was one of the best debate moderators. Always prepared and enthusiastic, and incredibly fair. I am a little heart-broken.

And Lynne, whenever I think of him, I picture the mini-white board where he just gave up, erased the whole thing and wrote "FLORIDA!" at the end of the night. He actually brought it with him when he spoke at my now-husband's college graduation a few months later and I was so excited to see it!
