OK, sick sense of humor. In watching the clip, I noticed that the men seemed to be searching for something sexist. I long await the time when we can belittle someone for their stance, and not the way they stand.

I have to admit that I hadn't really witnessed the number of sexist things that have been said this primary season. I don't watch a lot of Fox News, so I missed all of those, but DANG Chris Matthews is such a creepy man! How did I miss all of those comments? I only watch him during the primary returns and don't watch his show, but I had no idea he was like that towards women. Some guys don't understand that even if you tell a woman she is pretty, in the wrong setting it feels completely uncomfortable! It seemed like a lot of people had all sorts of metaphors to use that didn't apply before a woman was running, so now they are uber eager to whip them all out, with out taking into account whether they would be derogatory or appropriate. I had no idea they examined cleavage! How inappropriate!

So, I have got to give you a hearty "YOU ARE RIGHT" in regards to the points you were making in the sexist thread the other day. There have been so many examples this year that I didn't notice before.

I only got part way through the video, and I'm sure I'm going to get attacked for this, but I didn't see anything that made my mouth drop open.

Sure, Chris Matthews comes off as a dick, but a woman calling Hillary haggard looking is no more sexist than calling McCain near death or whatever.

I'm sorry I wasn't shocked by that. I just can't summon outrage at appropriate times lately.

I think the video is effective at stirring up outrage. It's kind of verging on propaganda in that respect.

I would tend to agree with popgoestheworld simply because I'm sick of so many people pointing to non-PC behavior as a way to justify a permanent state of victimhood. It trivializes genuine oppression. Yes, I doubt any of that commentary would be directed at men, but I've always thought it shows far more character to rise above adversity with a little grace, rather than whining about how you've had it harder than someone else.

It's sexist, but what the heck. We've got a lot of catching up to do.

Actually, they're pointing out non-PC behavior to stop victimhood. The group behind the video is petitioning the networks to stop treating women as a joke and to stop using inherently gendered language as an insult or criticism. The video makes clear the behavior they are targeting. Rising above shows breeding, ending the negative behavior shows common sense.

But my point was that non-PC behavior doesn't victimize anyone, unless they decide to be victims. Just because Chris Matthews is an idiot doesn't mean his network sees or treats women as jokes, and frankly it's his show and he has every right to be an idiot. If enough people really felt he was "sickeningly sexist" the petition wouldn't be necessary because the ratings fallout would be sufficient enough to see him off the air. Unless you're of the opinion that the rest of the population is equally as sexist, in which case cable news networks should be the least of your concern.

The terms "inherently gendered" and "common sense" are really subjective. Two people could watch the exact same broadcast and one could walk away offended at something when the second wouldn't bat an eyelid. Why is only the first allowed to set the agenda as to what's acceptable, or truly offensive, and what isn't? And might that have an effect on the content a network chooses to show? Why risk showing a potentially controversial point of view or subject that could invoke the wrath of any group with a political agenda?

But I'm verging into theory with that one...

That video just made me sick to my stomach. Why is that okay? Can you IMAGINE if they were making racial jokes like that or religious jokes like that? It's disgusting that this is such a common and accepted practice. I just may found a new feminist group. I've never felt this strongly about women's rights before, but after this election I am appalled by the state of things in this country. I don't think that it is the major reason that Hillary isn't winning this election, but I certainly don't think it helps. Also it hasn't just been on fox. I was visiting my dad for 3 weeks and he watches nothing but CNN. It's rampant on there too. Also just a question...why when this sort of sexist behavior is pointed out it's just Hillary playing the victim...but when there is racist behavior pointed out towards Obama it's taken SO seriously? I think it should be equally despised and equally unacceptable. I have officially stepped off my pulpit.

I was going to go and find a video clip from the episode of Family Guy when Peter tells a sexist joke (Why do women have boobs? So you can have something to look at while you're talking to them.) and has to go on a women's retreat, but I couldn't find it anywhere.

i felt the woman making the haggard comment was sexist because people don;t use that word about male politicians who are much older looking than Hilary. the woman who said that didn't necessarily decide to say it right? sexism sells and i think those comments aren't oversights or slips of tongue but deliberate attacks and attempts at-ummm, risquee?- humor to improve ratings
