The situation with the U.N. and Myanmar makes me so sad I just don't understand why they would refuse these poor and grieving people help.

I cant believe the situation in Myanmar. Wow, they are hurting their own people so much!

What is wrong with the Gov't of Myanmar? Their people are dying and they need help! They need to put aside the differences and let foreign aid come in. This is ridiculous!

The Myanmar situation is so depressing to think of a few a-holes in power costing people their lives and the lived of their loved ones - politics will always be more important than human life, won't it?

I can't believe they arrested the wrong man! And I actually felt relieved when I read the earlier report.

Myanmar situation is very similar to what has happened with the BILLIONS of dollars given to African coutnries. The shady government regimes misappropriate it and the people that it is intended to go to never see a bit. As bad as some of you think this country is, aren't you damn lucky to be American?

You know Paul Wolfowitz said the same thing when he was in charge of the World Bank and he was hounded out (they used his girlfriend as an excuse - everyone there hires a family member). He said he wanted to cut aid to African nations until they were sure the supplies were actually reaching the people. Otherwise they were just propping up dictators and warlords. It makes total sense.

"everyone there hires a family member" -- Talk about sidetracking support: the World Bank isn't supposed to be a jobs program for the already well to do.

The Iraqi government cannot be trusted. They are not working towards freedom and democracy. They still live in the 8th Century mental zone.

Myanmar is so reclusive and lives in such fear of freedom, justice, and democracy that they'd prefer for their own citizens to die rather than accept any help in distributing food to their starving and dying citizens. Okay. Some people say the earth has too many people living on it . . . so this is just one way to reduce the use of earth's resources.

No, of course I don't mean that I believe that personally. But the "zero-population growth" groups should be asked their assessment of the Myanmar situation. Would they go in and help?

We can only do what we're given permission to do. The old adage "It's easier to ask forgiveness than permission" won't work in this catastrophe. The opposite adage is "It's easier to declare war on you than to forgive you."

This situation just shows how degraded mankind can become in an effort to maintain their positions of power over people.

On a serious note yes it is very sad. I wonder if they'll risk doing air drops? I heard the Thiland Prime Minister was scheduled to fly there to beg them to accept aid, but the Generals were apparently too busy to see him.

What a surprise, the government is taking the food for themselves. I'm glad the UN has stopped all aid
