Jenna Bush Dishes Wedding Details, and Why She Said No to the White House

Jenna Bush was on the Today show with her mom yesterday discussing plans for her upcoming wedding and finally clearing up why it will not take place at the White House. The Pennsylvania Avenue option was of course available to Jenna, but she turned it down saying, “Texas is home to me. . . I did live in Washington, but I never lived in the White House."

The celebration is to take place at sunset on the Crawford, Texas ranch with a guest list of about 200 people. For you detail junkies, Jenna sets the scene:

I guess it maybe says we’re crazy. I wanted to be at home, and I wanted it to feel natural and I wanted it to be a private thing. It’s the one day of my life — it happens once — that I want to have a private time with Henry and my family. Plus, I’m not that glamorous. I’m more an outdoor type.

See? Maybe I wasn't so far off with my cowboy boot comment! To see what everyone will be wearing, and what's in store for the couple post-nuptials, read more.

Her gown, described as simple and casual, is an Oscar de la Renta creation of embroidered organza with matte beading and a small train. She will have 14 attendants and her twin sister Barbara Bush will be her maid of honor. The party will wear short chiffon dresses by Lela Rose, a Texas designer, in green, blue, yellow and lavender.

When Jenna is not preparing for her wedding she is promoting a children’s book she wrote with her mother and First Lady, Laura, entitled Read All About It, which is on sale now.

The husband-to-be is Henry Hager, son of John Hager, a political heavyweight in Virginia politics and assistant secretary of the US Department of Education. He's currently completing graduate work at the Darden School of Business Administration at the University of Virginia. Henry met Jenna while working on the 2004 Bush re-election campaign. After the wedding, it's rumored the newlyweds will move into a 128-year-old, two-bedroom, two-bath townhouse on the south side of Baltimore that they purchased for $440,000.

Sigh. Happily ever after!

Aww...thats so cute. I agree with her decision to have it in Texas...that's her home. Her dress and bridesmades dresses sound beautiful as well.

14 attendants! I'm not even sure I am close enough to that many people to ask them to be in my wedding.
Well, Congrats and all the best of luck!

yes, her DAD in cowboy boots is cute. all the men in cowboy boots, super hot! but for her... I'd be like, why do you have to make Texas look like the land of Cheezy-Cheese?

I will say I support her decision to get married in TX! i will probably get married in TX, at some place where you can roll in BBQ and kegs. in the classiest way possible, of course. Smiling

Oh I'll be there too!! I LOVE bbq... do you do texas style?

I'm a memphis or carolina style fan myself... I think that was the most important thing we had to decide as a family when we moved south, what kind of BBQ are we fans of?

Sorry!! I got really excited and I was doing too many things at once...

I had a southern friend educate me on the different styles... Texas is usually spicy, Carolina is a vinegar based sauce, and I believe Memphis is tomato based...

I don't know. She might have a meeting. I know she had one that lasted all day last week. I told her she can never have an all day meeting again, but apparently she did not take me seriously.

Don't get all Angry Mob on me!

I don't know how to pronounce it either! lol. it's kind of a combo of my first name initial and a few letters of the last name. I'd pronounce it "syaw - koe" haha I'm terrible at pronunciation guides apparently

South Carolina style is mustard based & its the MFing JAM! Of course, round here, BBQ is a noun. Cooking outside on a grill is grilling out.

Ok, sorry for the tangent... 14 attendants?!?! Thats insane!

What's the problem? I know two people who got married in wedding dresses and cowboy boots. When she rides in rodeos it's fairly common for the bride to wear white cowboy boots. And a young man in a white tux and cowboy boots is absolutely HANDSOME!

I'm glad for Jenna. Getting married at the family ranch makes a lot more sense, since the White House doesn't belong to the family.

    Best Wishes, Jenna!
