Oh how I wish it was still 1.08.... sheesh, I'd take 1.99 as long as there was a 1 before the decimal point!

I think about the days when I could get gas at $0.98 a gallon! :Sigh: There is absolutely no reason that gas should be this high.

Silly you're right. When we went to europe in Sept it cost us 70 bucks to fill up our teeny car that had all of 4 cylinders, I swore I would never complain about US gas prices again...

I live right across the river from NJ and the town right across the river has gas for $3.11, which is cheap right now. It's amazing you come into PA and gas goes up to $3.46 a gallon.

Anyways, I could really use this. I hope I win!

Brittany... are you north, central, or south eastern PA? I live on the border and gas in NJ is $3.25 a gallon.

Ha. We drove by a gas station yesterday and was like "2.99! PULL OVER!" I remember when it was only .98 the year I started driving. Good thing I don't delivery drive anymore, I'd be hurting for cash.

Lainetm - That's a great link. It really puts into perspective the cost of the gas as compared to our earnings. People like me only remember when gas was $.85/gallon, and complaining that it was high then....

Why is it that Jersey has that law? Is it to avoid drive offs?

cabaker27 - it's because if people were allowed to pump their own gas, insurance prises would be higher than it costs to hire people to pump it for you

i'm happy to know that people who were stupid enough to buy a hummer are now spending tons on gas. not only is 32 gallons in a tank obscene, they get like 15 mpg. in SF they are talking about issuing parking fines based on how big your car is - i think it's an excellent idea. if you want to be a jerk and drive a car that big ... in the city... you deserve to be punished.

"in SF they are talking about issuing parking fines based on how big your car is"

I don't think that is very fair. What about a large family that drives a suburban, that may just be in San Francisco for a visit? They should be fined for having children? Or for traveling into the city? OR living in the city with children? That is not right.

I don't think it's actually illegal in NJ, at least, you don't get in trouble....I live here and I've pumped my own gas several times when the attendants take too long. I even asked if it was, and I've always been told no, it's just the way they do it.

Gas prices blow. I understand that in other countries, gas has always been pricier than the US but you also have to take into account how far people drive to work here as opposed to say a 10 minute drive in the UK. I drive 35 miles each way, so 70 miles a day= a tank and a half a week. Blah!

Well if you have kids, then you should be driving a minivan, not an SUV. So go ahead and fine those people. SUVS, if they are not hybrids, and are huge like Suburbans and Escalades, are useless and ridiculous. They cost an arm and a leg and another arm to fill up, they are not actually that safe (tip-over anyone?) and they are bad for the environment. If you have children, then you should be driving a safer car like a minivan. I doubt those fall into the big category. With rising gas prices and the economy in recession you would be insane to buy an large SUV that was not a hybrid. The whole thing will cost you way too much money.

DearMissPriss: actually it is illegal. It depends on the gas station you go to, but most places I've been, I've seen people yelled at and told to get back in their cars, lol

EkaterinaBallerina, Suburbans are not known to tip over, because they are not built on a car frame like SUV's are. That is what makes SUV's dangerous, the fact they are built on car frames.

Not to mention that Suburbans have an extra seat, and a larger trunk. They handle snowy roads better then a minivan and can tow more. There are reasons to own Suburbans. Also what if the family has owned one for YEARS. They are to just go out and buy a new one?

Do you know how many more MPG an Suburban gets over a Mini Van, Old or new?

And Hybrids are not all they are cracked up to be, and not everyone has the means to buy one.

WOW Ek... your intolerance is mind blowing.

First off, what about people in construction? They need pick up trucks and SUVs and the like to get their JOB done. You know, building houses for people to LIVE in? So we should just execute them all because they drive a gas guzzler?

And sorry, minivans are no safer than SUVs. Many of them have low safety scores. But I supposed you would legislate that people can only buy minivans if they want to have children. Hell, lets limit how many children people can have, lets legislate that too...

Am I the only one who thinks the best thing about this country is that we have the freedom of personal choice???

I feel like I'm taking crazy pills!!!
