Junior Super Tuesday Update

Right now voters are going to the polls across Ohio, Texas, Rhode Island, and Vermont.

In Ohio, flood warnings in the south, and icy conditions in the north could deter voters. A new balloting system in the Cleveland area may potentially make voting messy. The new paper ballot system sometimes counts erase marks or stray marks as a vote for multiple candidates, and with the new system, the voter cannot review her selection. Final results from the area may not be available by tonight.

And in Rhode Island, where polls stay open until 9:00 p.m., record turnout is expected. Check back here tonight for the winners as they're announced!

At least we won't have to deal with hanging chads this time around.

Poor Cleveland! I think that for both parties best interest we NEED to get a dependable system for voting. I know that in Los Angeles county, 50% of the independent vote didn't count because polling volunteers didn't instruct indy voters to "double bubble".

Add this to what happened to Florida years ago, and the suspicious results in New York as discussed by Mayor Bloomberg, I think we have a big pot of voter distrust brewing! Citizen involvement is vital to the democratic process. We really need to keep all of the people who are going to the polls coming back for more. I don't know the solution, I just hope someone does!

Good find about the Cleveland system. It seems like the country is going through a Cambrian explosion of voting procedures.

As a Clevelander myself, I must say I'm GLAD to see electronic voting systems get the boot. There are way too many security vulnerabilities to trust things that are out there right now. Optical scan may have its flaws, but at least the original physical votes are always there, available for recounting if need be. (In contrast to the electronic systems, where you simply have to "trust" the memory chip that all votes were supposed to go to Mickey Mouse).

Why can't we figure this out? What is so hard about it? We can create all kinds of technology for other stuff...
