4.4 million people across South Florida are currently without power. The black-out occurred shortly after 1 p.m. EST and forced the Turkey Point nuclear reactor offline. Washington and the Department of Homeland Security has issued a statement saying that they do not believe the outage was caused by terrorist activities.

Counties affected include Broward and Miami-Dade, and power is off at Walt Disney World as well. All told eight power plants are down, and residents are being told to stay put while rescue efforts are under way for those caught in elevators or trains.

Those poor people at disney world! My biggest fear? I would be on the small world ride, dragged into that chlorine smelling horror by my 10 year old niece and the power would go out while I was in Asia, the boats would rock a bit and suddenly i would hear the pitter pat of tiny feet, and the "hee hee"s that come before the dolls of satan open my brain. not that i have thought about that before or anything.....

Isn't it sad that when something like this happens, there has to be a statement as to whether or not it involved terrorism?

I live in Miami, and a lot of us are doing fine. I feel bad for the people who haven't gotten power yet, as well as the people who might have suffered injuries or losses because of the initial confusion (no traffic lights, stuff like that).

You have to issue a terrorist statement whenever anything happens at Turkey Point (the nuclear energy plant just south of Miami). One of the bigger issues here today was the traffic because people don't treat an intersection without lights as if it were a four-way stop. There were a lot of fender benders and the schools wouldn't release students (not even to their parents) because the roads weren't safe.

    It's all good now.
